Benjamin W. Starnes is a professor of surgery, chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and vice chair of the Department of Surgery for the University of Washington in Seattle. He has occupied the Alexander W. Clowes, MD Endowed Chair in Vascular Surgery since 2015 and served as division chief since 2007. Throughout his career, he has accepted over twenty-six national visiting professorships and has authored or coauthored over one hundred peer-reviewed publications. He speaks regularly at medical conferences around the world. Prior to joining UW Medicine, Dr. Starnes spent fifteen years in the United States Army as a vascular surgeon serving three combat tours in Kosovo and Iraq. He now lives on Mercer Island with his wife and two daughters.
